چکیده

To better understand the combustion chemistry of tetrahydrofuran (THF) and 2-methyltetrahydrofuran (MTHF) which has been considered as promising bio-fuel, the structure of their stoichiometric (φ=1.0) low-pressure laminar premixed flame has been investigated. The flames have been stabilized on a burner at a pressure of 50 Torr (6.7 kPa) using argon as dilutant (78 %), with a gas velocity at the burner of 59 cm s at 293 K. The results consist of mole fraction profiles of about 40 species for the THF flame and 60 species for the MTHF flame identified and quantified as a function of the height above the burner by probe sampling followed by online gas chromatography analyses. An analysis and comparison of the combustion of these fuels was performed regarding the mole fraction of the products.

Exploring Old and New Benzene Formation Pathways in Low- Pressure Premixed Flames of Aliphatic Fuels

A modeling study of benzene and phenyl radical formation was performed for three low-pressure premixed laminar flat flames having an unsaturated C2 or C3 hydrocarbon fuel (acetylene, ethylene, and propene). Predictions using three published detailed elementary-step chemical kinetics mechanisms were tested against molecular beam mass spectrometry (MBMS) species profile data for all three flames....

Experimental study of soot aerosol formation in swirl-stabilized flames of alternative aviation fuels on a path to sustainable aviation

Particulate matter (soot aerosol or carbon black) emissions from combustion systems have adverse effects on human health and the environment. Soot is a major contributor to the total radiation heat loss in propulsion systems. Soot aerosols in the atmosphere have significant positive radiative forcing that contributes to global warming because of strong absorption of sunlight by soot. As compare...

Soot Formation and Oxidation in Laminar Flames (Invited)

The flame and soot structure, including soot primary particle nucleation, surface growth and oxidation properties, of 6 premixed and 20 diffusion flames were studied experimentally for various fuels, at temperatures of 1400-2350 K and at pressures of 13-811 kPa (0.1-8.0 atm). Measurements were made along the axes of flames with the reactants at normal temperature (300 K). The following properti...

Effect of fuel type on the extinction of fuel and air stream diluted partially premixed flames

Previous investigations have demonstrated that the roles of fuel stream dilution (FSD) and air stream dilution (ASD) in suppressing CO2-diluted methane flames are strongly influenced by the level of partial premixing. Herein, we compare this influence for both counterflow and coflow laminar non-premixed and partially premixed flames (PPFs) established with various fuels, including methane, ethy...

A comparative numerical study of premixed and non-premixed ethylene flames

Detailed numerical simulations of premixed and non-premixed C2H4/air flames were conducted, using six available kinetic mechanisms. The results help assess differences between these mechanisms and are of interest to proposed hydrocarbon-fueled SCRAMJET concepts, in which C2H4 can be expected to be a major component of the thermally cracked fuel. For premixed flames, laminar flame speeds were ca...
